Dedicated to a new Spin on a Album

What is this?

One of the things I love doing is taking an album (sometimes an unreleased one) and changing the tracklist around to create a story. This is awesome for when I like an album but the ordering of the tracks just do not flow sonically or story wise. For the first album to write about, I am doing dedicated by Carly Rae Jepson. Now your thinking, “Why her? She’s a one-hit wonder?”. Honestly she is not a one hit wonder! Her second album Emotion was amazing and while this new album is not quite as good, it is much better with a little reworking. I’ve also added and subtracted songs rom both the original Dedicated album and the Side B she released after the album. All in all my version is 18 tracks with two bonus tracks. The bonus tracks are not in our story or will be discussed.

Enter Real Love

For the first track I went with Real Love that was originally in the end of the album. It describes her being in a some type of relationship that she just does not feel in love with the person. It sounds as if all she wants is real love, but she is instead settling for a broken relationship. All of the songs lead into one another story wise and this creates an over arching them for entire album. She would do anything for real love including scarifying her own happiness. The song itself is also top notch!

The Three Stages of L.O.V.E …

Julien

This brings Julien into the picture. This part of the story is pretty self-explanatory. She feels a strong pull to Julien and is infatuated with him.

But all your colors are still dancing in my mind

More than just lovers, I
I’m forever haunted by our time

-Julien by Carly Rae Jepsen

Heartbeat

Private time for the two is upon us. The vocals are some of the best on the record I feel. They’re deep and intimate to give you a feeling of privacy. She has all of these feelings that she is afraid to share with Julien. Their deep feelings that has her feeling like if they come out then Julien may just leave.

Everything’s a little bit clearer

How my body feels in your hands

It makes me want to get a little bit nearer

But I don’t know if you’re ready for that

-Heartbeat by Carly Rae Jepsen

Now that I Found You

The song is sonically a piece of art in my opinion. It is a full BOP as the kids put it these days. We have come full circle with her being deep in love with Julien and wanting to scream it from the top of the mountains. It’s one of those classic Carly tracks that make you smile.

Waking up next to you, every morning

How did we get this far?

It came without a warning

And in the night time, you tell me your whole life

You and me get too real, but all I feel is alright

-Now that I found you by Carly Rae Jepsen

How Much is 2 Much?

Now that we have our little love birds, what happens next? The next track is possibly my favorite on the album! Every piece of it is just a full on gem. The song is called too much and boy is it a SMASH. Here comes the issues in the relationship. Carly is just TOO MUCH (pun intended) for Julien. She is not apologizing for it either. The song is the kind that takes on a life of its own with a sassiness to the voice and production that is just infectious.

The Three Stages of O.V.E.R …

The Sound

We’ve all been in that relationship that we just have the other playing head games! We just want to hear one thing but we constantly get let down because its just never what we want to hear. This is the starting stage of the end for Carly and Julien. The relationship starts coming apart at the seams.

I’ve been testing out the waters

I don’t think I can swim, love
With the way you rock me ’round

And I feel it, more than just desire

I don’t think I can breathe
With the way you let me down

-The Sound by Carly Rae Jepsen

Right Time Wrong Words

The song starts with signifying the end with the words the words “we threw everything away”. Carly is done with Julien even though he is begging her to come back. He may be saying all the right things but she is just not listening. Guess you never know a good thing til it’s gone.

I don’t wanna see your face

I’m afraid I couldn’t wait for you

I’m afraid that I would break

Only want me when I’m leaving you

-Right Time Wrong Words by Carly Rae Jepsen

Happy Not Knowing

There’s nothing like a Carly scorned! Julien is out of the picture and she just doesn’t want to hear about it. She wishes him the best she just can’t handle caring at the moment. This ends the Carly & Julien love story. She is too much for him, he can’t say the right words at the right time, and she’s happy not knowing.

I turn your love away ’cause I want to sleep at night

It’s just like my broken heart is my alibi

I’m afraid, afraid, afraid, afraid of knowing

What I’m knowing, what I’m knowing

-Happy Not Knowing by Carly Rae Jepsen

Its Time to Get Down with The Get Down of a Rebound

Up until now we have not had a sex-centered track. This is where Want You in My Room comes in. Carly is grown for this album because she wants it “On the Bed, On the Floor”, any where apparently. The throwback instrumentals with its fast tempo gives you all the fuel you need for some dance moves. In our story this is where Carly just has a grown up fun time with someone, nothing serious.

How about a Solo Party for One?

Party for One

After her fun-time with a special (or not so special) someone she takes a night to herself. Whoever it is (Julien or the Rebound) she is over caring about them and just wants to get “back on her beat”. Its a fun anthem that did not belong as a target exclusive bonus track! Its one I use when I’m over caring about people not caring about me! Come on now, we all have those days.

Party for one
If you don’t care about me
I’ll just dance for myself
Back on my beat
I’ll be the one
If you don’t care about me
Making love to myself
Back on my beat

-Party for One by Carly Rae Jepsen

Solo

While in the previous song it sounded like she was only going through the motions of being okay alone. In this song she is preaching its okay to be solo as she tells us “so what your not in love? don’t go wasting your nights getting so low”. This shows a new grown Carly that is not only focused on being in love like she was in the first track.

He let go, she moved on
A thousand stories before
You felt it, then lost it
You’re lonely, your heart aches
But get yourself off the floor
I can’t stand to see you cryin’

-Solo by Carly Rae Jepsen

New boo.. who dis?

I like to think of this album playlist in sections. We started with her wanting love, finding it for the wrong reasons, ending it, and loving herself in the end. What happens now that her story has evolved? It’s time to accidentally find the man of her dreams… maybe.

This next song is This Love Isn’t Crazy. The sonics in the song alone is just a pure eargasm honestly! You have to blare the song LOUD each time. It details how she’s found someone new and is just shocked he’s normal after all she’s been through. The song bares a very similar idea to the song Unusual You by Queen Britney Spears. It is a joyous track that opens a new section of our story.

Is this new boy the one? She’s a new woman right?

No Drug Like Me

This new love may have not been crazy, but its about to get that way. The new carly is self-assured right? The whole chorus is basically her saying just that! The delivery in parts of the chorus are just so seductive. No Drug Like Me could be interpreted a couple ways. For our story lets just say she is letting the guy know as long as she’s happy then she will be good in the relationship.

For Sure

Something has happened between this song and the last. She’s not ready to leave this new love alone but she thought they might just be over. While it is a more simple track lyrically it still is successful. The production is very different for her. Theres a tropical vibe she’s never quite tapped into before. It keeps me coming back to the track.

How does this all end?

Felt this Way

While wrestling with the idea of if their over or not for sure she’s struggling to stay away from the same love that came in on track This Love Isn’t Crazy. The songs melody is just beautiful from start to finish. With plenty of lyrics while still having a strong chorus. Everything in the song is placed as it should be. What will happen next in her story? Will she stay away from this new love of hers or call it home.

And if my love’s too strong for you, walk away
But I can’t make this wrong when I see your face
My home is your body
How can I stay away?

-Felt This Way by Carly Rae Jepsen

Comeback

We get to our happy ending track! The production gives us the deep intimate 80’s feel with a feature from the artist The Bleachers. The words of the song are extremely sweet and written from the heart it seems. It looks like she found a home with the new love. It is a love that makes her happy in every way. Soulmate is the word that comes to my mind when I hear this song. It is a beautiful closer to our album.

I’m at peace in the dark
When I know that you’re near
Hear the breath of your heart
Singing me a lullaby
All those traveling years
‘Til we said our goodbye
And I show up to your place
You don’t even ask me why

-Comeback by Carly Rae Jepsen
