Just a Girl – Album 1

We are starting with the album that started it all- “…Baby One More Time”! For each album I will come up with a new title, which for this one will be “Just a Girl”. The title encompasses the album to because of the innocence of Britney at the time. As you’ll notice from the single selection “Baby One More Time” is gone. Oddly enough the song has never been a favorite of mine. (You Drive Me) Crazy was always a better choice in my mind.

  • (You Drive Me) Crazy
  • I’ll Never Stop Loving You
  • I Will Be There
  • Soda Pop (Promotional)
  • Beat Goes On
Wouldn’t Change Some Things

As far as the songs that already have a video such as “(You Drive Me) Crazy”, I would not change a thing. I would however take the “From The Bottom Of My Broken Heart” video and put the “I’ll Never Stop Loving You” on instead. The vocals are stronger on I’ll Never Stop Loving You. Britneys vocals are something that have almost never taken front stage in her big releases! Throughout this journey I want to try to bring attention to those when I can.

I Will Be There

After learning the love that Felicia had for Britney, a video centered around their friendship would be great! The song itself is an obvious choice because it has the radio sound that was of that time and the vocals are great. Ellie Goulding has a video for her song “Army” that shows her relationship with a best friend in an autobiographical way. This would be great since the friendship between Fe and Britney was forming around this album cycle.

Soda Pop & Beat Goes On

Soda Pop is a fun track that is very teen-pop making it suit her whole genre focus at the time. A video is unnecessary with the attention grabbing production and vocals the song itself serves. There’s vocals that are nowhere else to be seen on the album!

As far as “Beat Goes On” is concerned, it would be a great closer to the era to tease her more mature self in future albums. The video could be her showing her self in a sexier racier visual than ever. Choreography could be the focus of the video! Something similar to a one take visual with backup dancers in an industrial styled set with neat special effects that do not take away from Britney.

Album Theme?

Which each album I want to draw a new overall theme\concept or take one that is already presented to a new level. For this album I could not come up with a new theme, only a reimagining of the singles. Even with the reimangied videos and the album title name, it does put a better theme to the album overall than what is originally presented. Britney was only “Just a Girl” then trying to figure it all out!

Side Note

In the ranking of Britney’s Albums the first two are at the bottom of that list. My love of her albums in my own life came when Femme Fatale was released. This means that I fell in love with a whole different sound & vocal tone. While her voice is much richer, less filtered, and overall better for her first few albums-there is a difference for sure. The love her albums will start coming out more when we hit the third album “Britney”. Once the Journey is over I may do a ranking post as well!
